JOB TITLE: Senior Consultant,
Data Base Administration
(MICROSOFT SQL SERVER)
Location: Chicago, IL - Need Locals
Length: 6 months
Rate: $50/hr on c2c
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties:
• Planning, installation and administration of MSSQL Server databases
• Participate and develop patching strategy.
• Code SQL procedures, Perform SQL reviews and participate in Application tuning efforts.
• Monitor and Tune Database and DB Instance properties and configurations as needed.
• Execute database maintenance as required, Index rebuilds, update statistics and data reorgs.
• Respond to Tier-3 support requests to identify database issues and resolve issues with database versions and patches.
• Evaluate new database features and document the benefits as they relate to the applications being supported and recommend tactical and strategic solutions.
• Work with teams on Application Scalability testing.
• Participate in design and analysis process during Business Requirements Phase
• Produce Logical and Physical data models
• Review Vendor technical requirements for projects and provide analysis and feedback on non-standard installations.
• Provides in-depth consulting to client and IT management and staff at the highest technical level in the identification and resolution of information flow, content issues and the transformation of business requirements into relational data base definition.
• Work with other teams when required if projects require cross platform/technical resources.
• Work within the process, which includes the following:
• Attend Project Planning meetings
• Provide Risks and Assumptions and Project Tasks and Timelines for input into the PMO process
• Commit to and comply with milestones and dates in the Project plan
• Use the PMO process for Change management and Escalation of issues
• Execute Database tasks as identified in the Plan
• Be required to mentor and shadow new team members
• Work closely with DBA peers in the Operations team.
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
• A thorough understanding of:
• Microsoft SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008 (r2)
• Windows 2005, 2008
• VMWare 4.x
• A strong understanding of MS SQL Server 2005 / 2008 security, compression, partitioning, performance monitoring and optimization techniques, indexes, constraints, transactions, file groups, stored procedures, triggers, cursors, locking, and query tuning.
• Ability to address very large database (VLDB) issues
• Understanding of ESX backup procedure at the guest operating system level.
• Strong background in the use of monitoring software MS System Center Operations Manager(SCOM), Patrol
• A strong background in the Financial Services sector is a plus.
• Experience in a project-based, SDLC environment is a requirement
• Experience with logical and physical modelling
• Understanding application tuning and performance monitoring, strong SQL coding and debugging skills
• Strong problem solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in a team atmosphere
• Works effectively with a minimum of direction
• Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness and ability to handle firecall duties.
