{Ajax-DOT-NET-FAQ} opening for a Sybase DBA – New York, NY

This is my direct client opening for a Sybase DBA – New York, NY. This is a 6 Months Contract position. The Hourly rate is DOE.

 

We are looking for a strong Sybase DBA role, that would include working with developers and development teams on design and performance review of database components of our application, as well as participating in the maintenance, enhancement, and daily operation of the existing capabilities, including typical DBA tasks (server configuration, backup, management). Ideal candidates will possess a combination of strong Sybase IQ technical skills, ideally with some knowledge of Sybase ASE and/or IBM DB2 as well.

 

Principal Responsibilities

Work with our developers to assist in design and rollout of new software on the Sybase IQ platform. Responsibilities would span technical design, development, testing, tuning, release and support, and take responsibility for operation of our database servers, including Sybase ASE, IBM DB2 and Sybase IQ.

 

Experience / Skills

Required

• Significant expertise and professional experience in Sybase IQ operations and administration

• Track record of technical excellence with an emphasis on quality and focus on testing and continuous improvements

• Strong communication skills

• Strong initiative and sense of ownership

• Working knowledge and proficiency in software engineering principles applicable to large systems

• Willingness to learn and work with a proprietary development platform and language (SecDB and Slang)

 

Preferred

• Knowledge of Sybase ASE and/or IBM DB2

• Knowledge of some area of trading, and basic familiarity with one or more categories of financial instruments
