Sr. or Lead PL/SQL Developer
Overview
This is a developer and production support position for our OLTP applications where knowledge of PL/SQL is paramount. This is a very data centric position. Ability to comprehend complex data relationships with an eye on performance is critical. Primary responsibilities are:
1. Develop and maintain PL/SQL code, primarily as store procedures.
2. Help resolve production issues
3. Improve performance of production queries
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain PL/SQL code, primarily as store procedures.
- Perform complex data analysis on VLDB
- Ability to profile large datasets
- Take lead in creation of complex data repair scripts
- Ensure performance of all scripts are optimal in our Oracle RAC environment
- Work with DBA to ensure maintenance scripts execution has proper controls (e.g., counts)
- Work with application teams to help resolve data quality issues
- Work with the application teams to help maintain production reference data
- Work with the Architects to help monitor and improve data quality
- Work with other PL/SQL developers to help improve performance of application PL/SQL queries
- Close tickets that are assigned with proper documentation
Soft Skills
- Ability to analyze and solve problems and work with the team to identify and fix the root cause of the problems (be it data quality, performance, or programmatic)
- Strong understanding of relational concepts
- Strong understanding of progressive data structures such as the 'party' model
- Excellent communications skills – both written and oral
- Self-motivated, high energy and a team player, who "can", when needed, take complete ownership of the project or module assigned
- Ability to face and negotiate with senior executives
- Ability to create presentations and solutions or lead sessions with medium to large groups in a conference room, on a conference call, web meetings, etc.
- Team player that is also self-motivated
- Life cycle experience in large OLTP projects
- Must be able to deliver within short time frames
- Must be able to debug, test, and tune performance of SQL code
Specific Technical Skills
- 10+ yrs of IT experience
- 2+ yrs experience working with VLDB (1+ yrs production support on VLDB)
- 10+ yrs Oracle experience – with 2+ yrs experience in 10g
- 8+ yrs programming in SQL and PL/SQL
- 1+ yrs experience in data profiling and analysis
- 2+ yrs experience with data cleansing
- 2+ yrs experience performance tuning queries for very large databases (VLDB)
- Working knowledge of a Data Profiling tool is a plus
