Position:          Sr. Front End Developer

Location:          NYC

Duration:          6+ months

The Sr. Front-End Web Developer role collaborates with designers and template developers to build web interfaces using modern standards-based techniques and best practices. He/she will provide general development and maintenance of web applications in relation to front-end code.  For project-oriented development, the Sr. Front-End Web Developer must work as part of a larger team to understand and implement specifications, communicate technical issues, and actively participate in functional and technical reviews.  The Sr. Front-End Web Developer works primarily with the Front-End Technical Production Manager and other senior front-end web developers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Sr. Front-End Web Developer has one or more of the following responsibilities:

Software Development

·         Translate wireframes/PSDs into launch-ready, valid XHTML/CSS

·         Build dynamic presentation layer effects

·         Implement solutions to support bug fixes and enhancements

·         Review incoming requests and provide basic analysis of possible solutions

Documentation

·         Contribute to writing of technical specifications

·         Contribute to technical wikis

Methodology

·         Develop according to best-in-class industry standards and guidelines

·         Understand and follow standard principles of Software Development

Project Planning

·         Provide level-of-effort estimates for projects and maintenance tasks across functional teams

·         Refine technical estimates based on approved functional and technical specification

Quality Assurance

·         Work with QA teams to ensure that work products meet desired objectives

 

JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

 

·         Candidate must  have superior knowledge of front-end coding technologies including HTML/XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, JSON, DOM Scripting

·         Candidate must have a solid understanding of web best practices and standards and fully embrace Web Standards

·         Candidate must have a thorough knowledge of performance optimization techniques to speed up the sites

·         Candidate must have a strong command of cross-browser development techniques and browser degradation strategies

·         Candidate  must be familiar with Section 508 and WAI accessibility guidelines and be able to develop interfaces that can be functional and accessible with or without the use of JavaScript

·         Candidate should have excellent knowledge of all of the on-page SEO and accessibility techniques and tools

·         Candidate should be familiar with major principles of Web 2.0 and Semantic Web

·         Candidate must be able to develop efficient, maintainable code under the standards set forth by the technology team

·         Proficiency in technical and process problem-solving, as well as root analysis

·         Candidate must have demonstrated ability to follow technical design and understand basic workflow of software development lifecycle (SDLC)

·         Candidate must be able to work in a team environment that requires collaborative solutions across functional teams

 

Education:

BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field

 

Knowledge and Skills:

·         Deep understanding of HTML/XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, JSON, DOM Scripting

·         Experience with server-side integration and development expertise in one or more of the following technologies: JSP, PHP, RoR, XSL/XSLT, TCL preferred

·         Good knowledge of Photoshop is required for slicing, cutting and optimizing web graphics for speed and performance

 

Work Experience:

·         4+ years work experience in front-end web development

·         Must be able to multi-task and manage several projects at once

·         Must be able to communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of personnel, both in verbal and written modes; able to pay close attention to detail and understand written and oral instructions

·         Must be able to organize and schedule work effectively

·         Must be able to work well under time constraints

·         Must be customer service-oriented, able to work independently

·         Must be able to work flexible hours, including hours beyond the normal schedule when necessary

·         Must be able to maintain confidentiality
