SR IBM COGNOS BI Designer and Developer

 

Job Requirements:

 

The candidate must have 5+ years experience in BI application design and development using the IBM COGNOS tools (version 8, version 10 a+).  They must have advanced SQL skills and vast experience designing and developing reporting solutions based on data stored in multi-dimensional star models and OLAP cube structures.  Must possess strong communication skills and able to work against very aggressive deliverables, and capable of supporting all environments.  The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter with 5+ years of hands on IT experience. B.S. degree in Computer Science or computer related field is desirable.

 

Insurance industry background and experience with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services and Analytical Services is a plus.

 

Developer works within a team environment and with the users to:

 

·         Understand and document report requirements (including data, layout/design/format and functional process requirements);

·         Analyze framework models/ database objects and identify gaps/issues that needs to be addressed to complete report requirements;

·         Design and format reports according to requirements using various Cognos BI report authoring studios (mainly Report Studio, Query Studio and Analysis Studio)

·         Use relational, dimensional models (DMR) and cubes for report design;

·         Build reports using list, crosstab, maps and chart displays, etc;

·         Build iDashboards using Go! Dashboard;

·         Build scorecards using Metric Studio;

·         Build drill-down/up and drill-through reports;

·         Build detail list-style reports; build reports using complex calculations and filtering logic, including date/time-based, text, and numeric calculations and filters;

·         Build prompted reports; build reports to be delivered in multiple formats (html, pdf, xls).

·         Create and modify relational and DMR models using framework manager;

·         Create and modify cubes using Transformer;

·         Create and modify data and object security in framework manager and transformer;

·         Promotion and code migrations and associated components through the pre-production to production environments.

·         Administration of the COGNOS tools, including creating and running jobs, server installations, COGNOS configuration management, Group and role based security setup and support is required.

 

This position participates in the support and administration of the COGNOS Business Intelligence infrastructure and will work collaboratively with project teams to ensure functionality and stability of supported environment. Performs and initiates continuous improvement initiatives within the team and enterprise and will also work collaboratively to establish COGNOS application requirements, as well as designing, developing, and testing the solutions.
